On August 30, Kapuso star Miguel Tanfelix and director Mark Reyes recounted the challenges they encountered taping Mary Anne Armstrong’s sacrifice scene.
On the media event for the ‘Voltes V: Legacy’ finale, which LionhearTV covered, Tanfelix cited the difficulties of taping a scene in full green screen.
“Para sa akin ‘yung death of Mary Anne (Armstrong) parang di ko po talaga makakalimutan dahil first time ko pong gawin ‘yun na mamamatay ‘yung kaeksena ko pero hindi ko siya kaeksena. Na puro green screen lang ‘yung nakikita ko. Ang hirap niyang i-visualize, i-imagine, habang nasa eksena na ‘yun.”
Thankfully, Carla Abellana, portraying Mary Anne Armstrong, was present during the taping, running the lines with him behind the camera.
“Pero buti na lang, ‘yung ginagawa po kasi namin sa set, binabato ng ka-eksena mo sa gilid na kahit di sila kita sa camera ‘yung lines nila.”
He also pointed out the difficulty of recording sequences one year apart due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“So for me, ‘yung death of Mary Anne dahil nga unang-una, mahirap siyang gawin. Hindi lang dahil sa green screen lang ‘yung nakikita ko pero for Direk din dahil isang taon ang pagitan ng eksena na ‘yun. Shinoot ‘yung sa akin, tapos after a year, tsaka si Ate Carla sa shoot. So mahirap ‘yung continuity noon for Direk.”
Reyes discussed the logistical hurdles the cast and crew experienced while taping the sunset scene after Mary Anne’s sacrifice.
“Favorite ko rin siya dahil isa ‘yun sa mga pivotal moments ng show. ‘Yun ‘yung isa sa mga scenes na magde-define kung sino talaga ang Armstrong brothers.
“So ayun, tsaka sobrang sakit niya noong ginagawa namin dahil sacrifice eh, nag-sacrifice ‘yung nanay mo para sa buhay mo, ang bigat noon sa puso habang ginagawa siya. Kitang kita ninyo naman nagmo-moist ‘yung visors namin habang ginagawa ‘yun kasi totoong emotions talaga ‘yung nasa eksena na ‘yun.”
