On November 18, Kapuso actress Andrea Torres revealed she used Cherie Gil as inspiration for her role in Love Before Sunrise.
At the media event for the Kapuso Mall Shows in Cebu for the Lapu-Lapu City Festival, which LionhearTV covered, Torres remarked that she used the essence of some of Gil’s iconic Kontrabida characters to portray her role in the GMA Network series.
“For this role, ang na-picture ko talaga, parang Cherie Gil ‘to. Kasi parang social na intimidating, na parang at the same time, you feel her. Although parang ayaw ko gayahin kung paano ginawa ni Miss Cherie Gil, pero ‘yung essence lang niya parang ganon.”
Torres also discussed her preparations for her antagonist role in Love Before Sunrise, including research and building her character’s backstory.
“With every project naman po, talagang grabe ‘yung research, kailangan din gawan mo siya ng sarili mong background para ‘yung mga nababasa mo sa script, hindi lang basta bibitawan ‘yung linya kapag sa likod ng utak mo, may pinanggalingan ‘yun. Kasi minsan hindi naman nakalagay sa script talaga kung ano talaga ‘yung nangyari sa kaniya noong bata pa siya at kung bakit ‘yun na ‘yung sitwasyon nila ng parents niya ngayon.”
Additionally, she highlighted the benefit of undergoing workshops for the character and watching movies as a reference for her role and acting.
“So ‘yun po, ako nagpapa-workshop ako sa sarili ko, kasi feeling ko mayroon at mayroon kang bagong mapi-pick up. Tapos panay rin po nood ng movies, kasi laging–magugulat ka na lang mayroong atakeng makikita na pwede mong gamitin sa next scene.”
