While the Kapamilya noontime show is already lucky for finding a new home on GTV, there is a downside to it and the netizens are the one noticing it first.
Are Kapamilya stars allowed to promote their shows on It’s Showtime, which since July 1 last year, has been airing on GMA Network’s second free-to-air channel, GTV? Well, that depends. While Kapamilya stars seem to be allowed to promote their movies and online series or TV shows made for streaming platforms, it appears they can not promote shows that are directly going against Kapuso shows airing on GMA channels.
That’s the case for Dreamscape Production’s Linlang, which lead star, Kim Chiu, was able to promote on the noontime show, It’s Showtime, when it debuted on Prime Video last year. However, as the series now airs its teleserye version on the primetime block of TV5, A2Z, and Kapamilya Channel, she is now barred from even mentioning the show on the Kapamilya noontime show.
Well, at least that’s what seems to many, who noticed during the show’s episode on Tuesday, January 23, that Chiu discreetly reminded her co-host, Amy Perez, from mentioning Linlang during It’s Showtime‘s live broadcast.

“Kimmy, congratulations! Dahil kagabi ang unang gabi ng Linlang! Trending!” Perez exclaimed during the opening spiel of the noontime show.
As a response, Chiu said “Thank you po, mamayang gabi ulit, ” but appeared to be holding back. When Perez made mention of Chiu’s stint on TV Patrol, the actress came closer to the veteran noontime host and seemingly whispered something.
Now, we can surely not know exactly Chiu said, but judging how Perez segued into promoting the weeklong grand finals of Tawag Ng Tanghalan Year 7 instead, it seems the netizens are right with their hunches that the PBB big winner indeed reminded Perez, they can not simply promote Kapamilya shows.
Be that as it may, it looks Linlang is nevertheless off to a great start, with or without promotion on GTV. Nielsen reports a 9.0 people rating for the series on its pilot last Monday, January 22. That’s higher than its Kapuso rival show, Love.Die.Repeat., which garnered a 7.3 people rating from its linear telecast on the same timeslot. Online, the series soared with a peak concurrent viewers of 367,000 on Kapamilya Online Live. It also dominated the trending topics on X (formerly Twitter), with #LinlangTheTeleserye version and other related hashtags and topics, making it to the top trending charts both nationwide and worldwide.
This is not the first time the netizens brought such an issue to discussion. They have noticed the same set up between GMA Network and ABS-CBN, when Nag-aapoy Na Damdamin and Pirapirasong Paraiso, appeared to have been barred from mentioning their shows, when they debuted last year. Both co-productions between TV5 and ABS-CBN, the two shows air on TV5, A2Z, and Kapamilya Channel.
