Up-and-coming Taiwanese indie band Huan Huan (缓缓) is making waves with their latest album When The Wind Came Across (瀏海被風吹得整個飛起來).
When The Wind Came Across is at its core a folk rock album, and incorporates elements of motown and soul. The album depicts a journey of self discovery that is “as fleeting as a gust of wind”, with each track written as a reflection of the nuances and details of everyday life and the imprints they leave behind on one’s memories.
The band shares that they hope the album can act like a silent friend, accompanying the listeners in their daily lives. Vocalist and guitarist Coco shared that: “Someone actually asked me if the album name was a little long, but I personally love the imagery that comes along with ‘When The Wind Came Across’. It has a feeling of time coming to a stop, and the extremely relatable feeling of the wind blowing across your hair, so we decided to stick with this album name.”
The album’s recording process was also a very memorable one for the members of Huan Huan. Bassist
To reflect the album’s inspiration from daily life, Huan Huan also adopts a slice-of-life approach in their album collaterals and new artist images. The band opted for a photoshoot at their usual hangouts, such as a hawker nearby their recording studio, the riverside and even a bandmate’s room. These locations signify the daily lives of the members of Huan Huan, and the process of the photoshoot for the album also felt like it was part of their daily lives.
After the release of the album in October 2023, Huan Huan has kicked off a mini album tour which has taken them across different cities in Taiwan, as well as a stop in Okinawa. They will next play in Taipei this month as well as Kaohsiung in March.
