During an impromptu interview at a media event for the new TV series ‘High Street,’ Kapamilya young actress Andrea Brillantes disclosed her eagerness to take on the lead role in a possible revival of the fantasy-drama series ‘Dyesebel.’
Responding to inquiries from reporters regarding the speculated reboot of the show, Andrea openly expressed her enthusiasm for portraying the iconic character.
She reminisced about auditioning for the role of Dyesebel when she was merely four years old and emphasized her deep admiration for the character, stating, “I’m a big fan kasi alam niyo naman na lagi akong nagsi-swimming, nagfe-freedive. So if pagbibigyan ako ng chance talaga, I would be so honored.”
Despite her enthusiasm, Andrea clarified that she has no knowledge of whether the project has commenced. She underscored that her swimming activities are solely for recreation and unrelated to any potential reboot of the series.
While rumors of a ‘Dyesebel’ reboot surfaced in 2022, as a replacement for ‘Mars Ravelo’s Darna,’ ABS-CBN has yet to release any official statements regarding the matter as of 2024.
‘Dyesebel,’ created by Mars Ravelo, holds a significant place in Filipino pop culture alongside other iconic characters like ‘Darna,’ ‘Captain Barbell,’ and ‘Lastikman.’ The last portrayal of Dyesebel on ABS-CBN was by Anne Curtis in 2014, alongside actors Gerald Anderson and Sam Milby.

Andrea has frequently expressed her desire to portray a mermaid, stating, “Gusto ko talaga kasi nung bata ako, feeling ko sirena ako. Kinulang lang kasi ako sa buntot pero marunong akong lumangoy!” Her interest in the role reflects her long-standing fascination with the character and her readiness to embrace the challenges of bringing Dyesebel to life on screen once again.
