Kapuso star Heart Evangelista has spoken out to clarify the recent uproar over a photo of her dog, Panda, sporting a multi-million peso Bulgari necklace.
The image, which quickly went viral, sparked speculation that the actress was throwing shade, particularly after comparisons surfaced between her post and Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, who had worn the same necklace as a Bulgari ambassador.
In an interview with ’24 Oras,’ Heart explained that the photo was simply a candid expression of her affection for her pets, particularly Panda, whom she considers a beloved member of her family.
“I’m a very candid person, I’m very transparent, and honestly, I love my dogs. Anak ko ‘yun e,” she said, emphasizing that her intention was to highlight the special bond she shares with Panda, an aspin (Asong Pinoy).
Heart also shared her motivation for letting Panda wear the luxurious piece, stressing the importance of treating animals with the same love and care as humans.
“I wanted to set an example na ang aspin, they are a special kind of breed na sariling atin, so ini-spoil ko talaga siya,” she explained. Heart further revealed that Panda isn’t just an ordinary pet confined to their home but is part of her larger plans, including possibly traveling to Paris.
Addressing the rumors that she was subtly shading someone, Heart dismissed these claims, noting that she purchased the necklace during the COVID-19 pandemic, long before the current situation. “Well, the necklace has been mine since pandemic times so, I honestly don’t see anything,” she said.
Heart went on to express her belief in the importance of treating loved ones—whether pets or people—with the best care possible. “I feel like, more than anything, it should be an inspiration that, you know, you should treat the people around you the same—they deserve the best,” she added.
In response to the comparisons with Pia Wurtzbach, Heart reiterated that her actions were not intended to provoke or compare but were simply an expression of her personal values. “So, honestly, I don’t really feel like there’s anything that I should do and not do, especially since I do own the necklace,” she concluded.
