Veteran comedian Bearwin Meily has shared a deeply personal story of overcoming addiction and gambling in a recent interview on Karen Davila’s YouTube vlog.
In a candid discussion, Meily revealed the significant challenges he faced earlier in life, including issues with drug use, gambling, and infidelity.
Reflecting on his troubled past, Meily described his family background as chaotic. “Magulo, sobrang gulo, 11 kaming magkakapatid, iba-iba ang nanay namin. That’s father side, apat ‘yung nanay namin,” Meily explained.
He added, “Apat ‘yun. Sa pangatlong asawa, isa lang ako, so doon struggle ako, ‘yung pagiging fair ng magkakapatid sa family ‘yung iba tatlo, iyung iba lima, ako isa lang. Ang mommy ko, nagkaroon ng tatlong asawa. So mayroon din akong mga kapatid doon apat.”
Despite finding success in the entertainment industry, Meily’s personal struggles continued until he experienced a profound turning point. “I think 20 years na, mas marami ‘yung naging project ko. After nu’n nagka-sense na ako na hanggang saan ba ako? Kasi 20 years na ako sa industry and then my dad was suffering from emphysema, so ipinakita sa akin ni God na, ‘Hey lahat may hangganan, saan ka?’ Si Lord ang nagpakita sa akin nu’n. Kaya sabi ko ‘ayoko na nga,” he said.
The death of his father in 2008 marked another pivotal moment for Meily, strengthening his faith and leading him to become a pastor. “Siguro mahirap maintindihan lahat, pero pinayagan ni Lord lahat e. It’s about pain, challenges, trials, problems, obtacles. Pinayagan niya, masakit lahat ‘yun,” he shared.
Meily now dedicates his life to spreading his faith and personal testimony, viewing his past struggles as part of a greater purpose. “But finish line you have to share your stories and you will cross the finish with the Lord. Nabubuhay pa ako ngayon dahil I just want to share His story. His story, it’s not mine anymore. I’m done, lahat tayo matatapos. So this is more than second chance,” Meily concluded.
