Kapuso star Arra San Agustin has firmly denied persistent rumors linking her romantically to co-star Paolo Contis, calling the speculation baseless and fueled by fake news.
In an interview with Boy Abunda on ‘Fast Talk’, Arra was directly asked about the allegations that have circulated online, particularly from gossipers who have tagged her as a “third party” in Paolo’s past relationship.
“NO! Hard no!” Arra declared when asked if there was any truth to the rumors. She explained that the issue began during the ‘Tippy Happy’ segment of ‘Tahanang Pinakamasaya’, which featured a love triangle storyline between her, Paolo, and Betong Sumaya.
“‘Yung mga tao, they caught pictures of me and Kuya Paolo tapos gumagawa sila ng mga articles and headlines na ako raw ‘yung third party. So nag-start po ‘yun last year. I think it was also this time last year,” she explained.
Arra added that the rumors resurfaced recently due to misinformation spreading on social media. She highlighted the dangers of disinformation and how easily public perception can be manipulated by misleading headlines.
“Kahit halungkatin pa ang social media o internet, walang makikitang bakas ang mga Marites kung may namamagitan sa amin ni Kuya Paolo,” she said. “Wala silang makikitang pictures, videos, [or] footage naming dalawa casually hanging out together without the Tippy fam… Wala, wala silang makikita.”
When asked if she considers Paolo a friend, Arra said yes, noting that they have worked together for a long time, dating back to her first show, ‘Bubble Gang’.
The rumors had been amplified by a viral TikTok video showing sweet moments between the two, which coincided with Paolo’s then-relationship with actress Yen Santos. Arra faced backlash as speculations spread, but she maintained that the claims were unfounded.
Paolo, for his part, confirmed in November that he is now single, further fueling public curiosity about his personal life.
