GMA Network President and CEO Gilberto R. Duavit, Jr. welcomed Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Secretary Jay Ruiz during a courtesy call to GMA Network on March 21, 2025.
Also present from GMA Network were Senior Vice President for Programming, Talent Management, Worldwide, and Support Group Atty. Annette Gozon-Valdes, Senior Vice President and Head of GMA Integrated News, Regional TV, and Synergy Oliver Victor B. Amoroso, and Vice President and Head of Corporate Affairs and Communications Angela Javier Cruz.
Joining Ruiz from the Presidential Communications Office was Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro and other personnel.
At the meeting, Duavit said, “Your visits to media organizations, such as ours, comes at a time when the entire industry is confronted with the challenges such as fake news, which continues to undermine truth and cause misunderstanding, confusion, and regression.”
“For 75 years, GMA has consistently stood for integrity, objectivity, truth and balance in the news and information we disseminate,” he added.
Secretary Ruiz, meanwhile, spoke of the role Filipinos could play in the fight against fake news. “Our fight against fake news is not just the government’s fight. It’s everybody’s fight.”
The courtesy call is part of the PCO’s initiatives to strengthen its advocacy against fake news. Meanwhile, GMA Network spearheaded “Panata Kontra-Fake News,” the country’s largest campaign against fake news and disinformation, on National Press Freedom Day, August 30, 2024. The initiative brought together over 60 partner organizations from media, universities, and the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) to sign the pledge to fight disinformation.
