Manila mayoral candidate Sam Verzosa is stepping into the political spotlight with a bold promise: To lead the capital city with a blend of entrepreneurial innovation, genuine public service, and a heart for the underprivileged.
Speaking at the ‘Balitaan sa Tinapayan’ media forum on April 4, the first-term congressman and successful entrepreneur laid out his vision for Manila, focusing on solving long-standing issues such as poverty, unemployment, traffic congestion, poor healthcare access, and deteriorating infrastructure.
“Dito po ako masaya — sa pagtulong at pagbago ng buhay,” Verzosa said. “Galing ako sa wala. Alam ko ang pakiramdam ng wala, at alam ko rin ang pakiramdam ng pag-angat.”
Known for co-founding the multibillion-peso direct-selling company Frontrow, Verzosa made headlines during the pandemic with his grassroots initiatives under the ;Tutok to Win; program. His transition from private enterprise to public office via the Tutok to Win Party-list only strengthened his resolve to serve those often left behind.
He emphasized that his decision to run for mayor is not driven by power or politics but by purpose.
“Hindi ito patalinuhan o pagalingan. Maraming magaling at matalino, pero minsan tuso. Ako, binigyan ako ni Lord ng talino, experience, at leadership — pero higit sa lahat, puso,” he said.
Verzosa assured voters that he has no interest in Manila’s coffers, vowing instead to give more than he takes.
“Wala akong babawiin sa Maynila. Dadagdagan ko pa. Triple pa,” he stressed. “Fulfilling this purpose brings happiness.”
His plans include rehabilitating public markets, improving public healthcare, introducing tech-enabled governance to combat red tape and corruption, and driving job creation through investment and support for local businesses.
Verzosa’s upbringing in Santa Mesa, Manila, exposed him early on to poverty and inequality — realities that deeply shaped his values and advocacy. Now, he wants to turn that empathy into action.
“This is not about politics; this is about purpose,” he reiterated. “We cannot solve 21st-century problems with 20th-century solutions.”
On the personal front, Verzosa expressed gratitude to actress and girlfriend Rhian Ramos for her support throughout his campaign journey. Without prompting, he also shared his belief that choosing a partner who shares your values is essential — a reflection of the same principle he applies in leadership: alignment, integrity, and compassion.
