Asia’s Romantic Balladeer Christian Bautista recently recalled the unexpected twist that almost derailed his plan to propose to now-wife Kat Ramnani during a European trip — he lost the engagement ring.
In an interview on ‘Fast Talk with Boy Abunda’, the Kapuso singer-actor shared how he invited Kat to join him in Greece during his European tour. He had planned a romantic proposal but couldn’t quite find the right moment — until things took an even more stressful turn.
“So pumunta siya doon. Itinago ko ‘yung engagement ring… I don’t know, hindi lumalabas, hindi ko ma-feel at that moment or spot, until mawala ‘yung engagement ring,” Christian admitted.
It turned out that he had packed the ring in his checked-in luggage — which ended up being mistakenly flown to another country.
“Nawala ‘yung engagement ring kasi nilagay ko sa check-in [baggage] at ‘yung eroplano ipinadala sa ibang bansa. So, parang nagtanong ako sa sarili ko, ‘Is this a sign? What’s going on?’” he recalled.
Fortunately, after a few tense days, the bag — and the ring — were returned to him. It was then that Christian decided to scrap the grand proposal plan and just pop the question privately in their hotel room.
“Thank God after a few days, nahanap ‘yung bag. And then noong nakita ko ‘yung bag and ‘yung ring, I proposed that night,” he shared.
Kat recounted the unglamorous yet endearing way it all went down: “He proposed to me in my pajamas na may butas-butas on our last night. So in all the beautiful spots in Europe, no. He just did it in the room, in private, in my Winnie the Pooh pajama with butas on it.”
For Christian, it was a testament that love doesn’t need a picturesque backdrop: “Parang pinakita ko rin sa kaniya na I don’t need all of these sceneries. I just need you.”
The couple wed in Bali in November 2018, followed by a grand reception in Manila.
Christian, who recently renewed his contract with GMA Network, continues to thrive both in his professional and personal life — proof that even lost rings can lead to forever.
