A new era in Filipino dance entertainment is about to take center stage as GMA Network launches its much-anticipated reality competition, ‘Stars on the Floor’, on June 28.
Blending celebrity charisma and digital-age creativity, the show brings together ten dynamic duos—each composed of a mainstream celebrity and a rising digital dance star—to battle it out in electrifying weekly performances.
Hosted by no less than Asia’s Multimedia Star Alden Richards, the primetime spectacle promises high-energy routines, emotional stories, and a celebration of Filipino dance culture. Each episode will feature a mix of genres—from ballroom and street to theatrical and viral trends—highlighting the rich diversity of movement that connects generations and platforms.
Guiding the contestants are The Dance Authority panel: Kapuso Primetime Queen Marian Rivera, comedienne Pokwang, and SB19 choreographer Jay Joseph Roncesvalles. Together, they will judge, mentor, and challenge each pair, offering insights that range from technical precision to heartfelt storytelling.
During the recent media conference, the cast and creative team shared their excitement and vulnerabilities. Stars like Glaiza De Castro, Rodjun Cruz, Faith Da Silva, Thea Astley, and Zeus Collins revealed their initial self-doubt about dancing, but also the pride and fulfillment they gained from overcoming those fears.
“Naging fulfillment namin kapag natatapos namin ‘yung dance. Doon kami mas lalong nagkakaroon ng fire to do more,” Glaiza shared. Faith Da Silva echoed the sentiment, admitting that while she’s not a trained dancer, the opportunity pushed her to work harder: “Grabe ‘yung pressure sa akin.”
For digital creators like Joshua Decena and JM Yrreverre, the transition from online platforms to national TV has been both daunting and exhilarating. “One take lang ’yan, and live pa,” said Joshua. Zeus Collins described the variety of dance styles as his toughest challenge yet.
Also present were renowned choreographers from the A-Team, alongside directors Miggy Tanchanco and Paolo Valenciano, who bring a fresh, collaborative vision to the production.
Beyond the glitter and high-stakes competition, ‘Stars on the Floor’ champions passion, discipline, and the transformative power of dance. It also aims to uplift the local dance community by showcasing rising choreographers and embracing diverse dance narratives.
