The realm of ‘Encantadia’ roared back to life as GMA Network’s much-anticipated fantaserye, ‘Encantadia Chronicles: Sang’gre’, made its epic debut on June 16—earning rave reviews and topping the primetime ratings battle.
The pilot episode, which aired on GMA Prime, opened with a nostalgic yet powerful flashback featuring the original 2016 Sang’gres—Glaiza de Castro (Pirena), Kylie Padilla (Amihan), Gabbi Garcia (Alena), and Sanya Lopez (Danaya)—who fought off a monstrous dragon using the elemental brilyantes. The reintroduction of Solenn Heussaff as Cassiopeia and the stunning first appearance of Rhian Ramos as the sinister ice queen Mitena added to the excitement.
According to preliminary NUTAM People Ratings, Sang’gre posted a strong combined rating of 13.7 across GMA and GTV, beating ‘FPJ’s Batang Quiapo’, which aired on TV5, A2Z, and Kapamilya Channel with a rating of 12.9.
Rhian Ramos’ chilling portrayal of Mitena also drew widespread acclaim. “Rhian Ramos as Kera Mitena has to be one of the greatest castings made in history. She owns every second of her scene while serving face card,” a fan wrote.
Reflecting on her performance, Rhian credited the show’s immersive production: “It’s a combination of the script, the set design, the effects, the costumes. Everything adds to the power and magic of the world of Encantadia.”
The series introduces a new generation of Sang’gres—Bianca Umali (Terra), Faith Da Silva (Flamarra), Angel Guardian (Deia), and Kelvin Miranda (Adamus)—who bring a fresh dynamic to the franchise. During a pilot watch party attended by GMA executives and cast members, the young stars were visibly emotional.
“Hindi po ito posible kung wala rin po sila, Encantadiks mahal namin kayo. Sana po ay masaya kayo,” said Bianca. Faith added, “This is something that I’ve only prayed for in the past. Sobrang napaproud ako.”
With strong viewership, trending buzz, and high production value, ‘Sang’gre’ has successfully cast its spell on audiences—signaling that the magic of Encantadia is far from over.
‘Sang’gre’ airs weeknights at 8:00 p.m. on GMA Prime, after ’24 Oras’.
