As his contract with the Terrafirma Dyip nears its August expiration, Terrence Romeo finds himself at a pivotal crossroad in his basketball career—deciding whether to remain in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) or pursue opportunities overseas.
While he confirmed that offers have come from foreign leagues—including interest from teams in Japan and Korea—the three-time PBA Scoring Champion made it clear that his heart remains with the league that shaped him.
“Priority ko talaga, gusto ko muna mag-try dito sa atin, sa PBA. Gusto ko mag-try na kumausap, kung merong interested, kung magkakasundo,” Romeo said at an event with new endorser ABCVIP.
The 33-year-old guard, who is still recovering from a knee injury, has yet to speak formally with any PBA teams due to not having an agent at present. “Hindi pa ako kumakausap sa mga PBA teams. Kasi wala ako ngayong agent eh. Ako lang talaga kumakausap. Tignan ko anong mangyayari,” he explained.
Romeo added that despite overseas offers, he prefers to play where he’s trusted and where he can be a meaningful contributor.
“Kailangan mo lang naman may tao na magtitiwala sa’yo. Nagtitiwala sa capability mo, sa kakayahan mo. Ganun lang ‘yun.”
But should the PBA door close, Romeo remains open to alternatives.
“Kung wala talaga, wala tayong magagawa. Kailangan mo talaga humanap ng way saan ako pwede maglaro. Kasi gusto ko pa maglaro eh. Masyado pa maaga for me na mag-stop.”
Romeo, who was traded to Terrafirma in November 2024 after a championship-laden stint with San Miguel Beermen, has only seen limited action due to injury. While he is not expected to return before Terrafirma wraps up its Philippine Cup campaign, he assured fans that he’s focusing on a strong comeback.
“Career ko sa basketball ang pinaka-focus ko ngayon. Kung paano ako makakabalik sa dating ako—or mas magaling pa. ‘Yun ang goal ko.”
Off the court, Romeo is also making moves. On June 1, he was officially introduced as the first brand ambassador for ABCVIP, a global online gaming platform launching in the Philippines.
“Ang main goal ko ay maka-inspire ng kabataan, makatulong. Importante ang disiplina—at ang tiwala sa sarili,” he said, underscoring his commitment to community engagement.
He also encouraged discipline in online gaming: “Kailangan may disiplina pag naglalaro, ‘wag sobra. Make sure na hindi naapektuhan ang livelihood nila.”
Reflecting on recent personal and legal challenges—including an online hiatus and previous accusations tied to a business dispute—Romeo emphasized the lessons he’s learned.
“Kailangan mas magingat sa mga taong pinagkakatiwalaan mo. Sa ngayon ay magfofocus ako sa career ko, sa sarili ko.”
As August approaches, the decorated guard continues to weigh his next chapter. While he remains hopeful for a renewed role in the PBA, Terrence Romeo is keeping an open mind—and an open court.
