Bernadette Reyes speaks out after being mocked for flood coverage

GMA Integrated News reporter and anchor Bernadette Reyes has spoken out after becoming the subject of online mockery for her viral photo covering the recent floods. In the image, Reyes is seen wading through floodwaters with her cameraman while delivering a news report.

In a Facebook post on July 22, Reyes expressed her dismay over how her post was copied and altered online.

Sa mga susubok gumawa nito, I’ll take action para mabura ang account/page and will take legal action as well,” she wrote.

Reyes emphasized that while she can endure criticism, it’s her family who is deeply affected.

She also reflected on how repetitive coverage of floods is often taken for granted, despite the continuing danger.

Reyes recalled the risks she and her fellow journalists took during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite the hurtful reactions, she maintained grace in her response.

In a separate post, Reyes shared the original caption to her flood coverage photo, offering a glimpse into her emotional and physical experience: “Tuwing may bagyo, habang marami ang nasa loob ng bahay, nanonood ng TV, kumakain o nagtutulog, kami heto lubog sa baha…

Though she has received praise and empathy, one netizen left a particularly vile comment, which Reyes also shared: “Pu… ina dami mo arte buti ka nga may trabaho kami kya nandito sa loob ng bahay walang trabaho… Drama mo.”

God bless.”

And in another post, she reiterated: “Ilang beses n’yo man akong murahin o kutyain, patuloy akong magsisilbi sa bayan. Uulit-ulitin para sa bayan.”
