Award-winning actress and entrepreneur Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo is stepping into a new kind of leading role—this time as the brand ambassador for Tala Philippines, a mobile lending platform focused on financial inclusion.
The announcement was made during a launch event held on July 30, where Santos was formally introduced as the face of the fintech brand.
“Financial empowerment is a real superpower,” Judy Ann said during the event. “It’s that peace of mind you feel when you know you can take care of your family. That’s something every Filipino deserves—and I’m proud to partner with Tala in helping more people experience that kind of security.”
Since entering the Philippine market in 2017, Tala has disbursed more than ₱118 billion in loans to 3.6 million Filipinos, many of whom are unbanked or underserved by traditional financial institutions. With 76% of Filipinos still unbanked as of 2024, Tala continues to bridge the financial gap with flexible credit solutions tailored for small business needs, emergency funds, and education.
“We want to be more than just a lending platform. We want to be their kasangga sa laban ng buhay,” said Moritz Gastl, General Manager of Tala Philippines.
During the launch, Judy Ann also shared her thoughts on the common perception that celebrities are immune to financial hardships.
“It’s up to the person. If they’re open to being honest about what they’ve been through, or if they want to keep it private, that’s totally fine,” she explained. “In my case, growing up and building my career and my name, you really start small. And that’s okay. Just save up. With a large amount of money coming in, there’s also a huge responsibility.”
She emphasized that in the entertainment industry, fame and success can be fleeting.
“This industry of ours is very volatile. Say something wrong, do something wrong, and suddenly, you’re forgotten… You’re easy to replace now. Many can suddenly come in and create a bigger name. You need to be prepared for that.”
Judy Ann also spoke out about a topic many avoid—how borrowing and lending money can affect relationships.
“We can’t do anything if it’s a real family emergency or something. But you also have to keep in mind that you need to pay them back because they also have responsibilities to themselves and their families,” she said.
“If you keep saying you’ll pay them back next week, that’s the beginning of a crack in the friendship… Losing someone over money, for me, is not worth it.”
For Tala, Judy Ann’s story of hard work, humility, and growth made her the ideal representative. Known for her grounded persona and roles portraying resilient women, Santos-Agoncillo embodies the values that Tala wants to champion.
“She embodies the everyday Filipino—strong, hardworking, and determined,” said Missy Santos, Marketing Director of Tala Philippines. “More than being a superstar, she’s a mom and entrepreneur—just like many of our customers. With Judy Ann, we want to show that anyone can be the bida of their own financial journey.” (with reports from Lau Balocos)
