Candy Pangilinan pushes for higher teacher salaries: ‘Hindi na tayo boboto ng bobong mamumuno sa atin’

Actress-vlogger Candy Pangilinan has sparked discussion online after expressing her support for increasing the salaries of both public and private school teachers, saying better compensation could lead to better education—and, ultimately, better leaders.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Candy emphasized that raising teachers’ wages could have a meaningful impact on the country’s future.

“Mas maganda siguro itaas ang sweldo ng mga guro private at public man ito. Isipin mo kung mas maraming mga bata ang matuturuan ng tama. ‘Hindi na tayo boboto ng mga bobong mamumuno sa atin. Baka lang…’” she wrote.

Her tweet immediately drew a wave of mixed reactions from netizens—some agreeing with her point, while others pointed out deeper issues affecting the education system.

One commenter wrote: “Itaas ang sweldo = yes. Matutunan ang tama = napakahirap, dahil nasa tao din ultimately, reinforced by values formation sa bahay…” The netizen added that many professionals, including politicians educated in top schools, still exhibit problematic behavior, showing how values play a crucial role beyond academic learning.

Another netizen commented: “More non-teaching staff, vehicles, more teaching materials, lesser seminars… EDUCATION now focuses more on survival rather than learning.”

Candy agreed with the observation, stressing the need to restore value formation in children both at school and at home.

“Ibalik ang value formation. Saka yung love for country. Hindi naituturo. Naipaparamdam. Ipamulat,” she said.

Beyond her viral commentary, Candy Pangilinan is also set to appear in the upcoming Philippine adaptation of the beloved South Korean film ‘A Werewolf Boy.’

Studio Viva unveiled the full trailer on November 3, confirming that the local version—starring rising love team Rabin Angeles and Angela Muji (RabGel)—will premiere in cinemas nationwide on January 14, 2026.

The remake, directed by Crisanto B. Aquino, follows the story of Boy (Angeles), a feral child found by Sara’s (Muji) family, who gradually learns to live like a normal human. As the two grow closer, their bond will be tested when a group of men, led by Albie Casiño’s character, attempts to capture Boy after witnessing his werewolf transformation.

Veteran actress Lorna Tolentino makes a special appearance, while the film also features a star-studded ensemble including Candy Pangilinan, Yayo Aguila, Jeffrey Hidalgo, Rose Van Ginkel, Annika Co, Simon Ibarra, and more.

The project was first revealed during the Viva One event at MIBF 2025, surprising fans with an early teaser drop.

Rabin and Angela previously teamed up in two hit adaptations—’Seducing Drake Palma’ and ‘Ang Mutya Ng Section E’—the latter of which will release its second season, ‘The Dark Side,’ on Viva One starting December 5.
