A tarot reader’s past prediction about Quezon City 1st District Rep. Arjo Atayde has gone viral after contractors Sarah and Curlee Discaya named him in the Senate’s probe into alleged corruption in government flood control projects.
Atayde, who was elected in 2022, has vehemently denied the accusations, calling them “lies” and stressing: “I categorically deny the allegation that I benefited from any contractor. I have never dealt with them. Hindi totoo ang mga akusasyon na ito. I have never used my position for personal gain. And I never will.”
The controversy reignited interest in a December 24, 2024 YouTube video featuring tarot reader Mamu (real name Gloria Escoto) in a session with vlogger Romel Chika. In her reading, Mamu warned that 2025 would be a turbulent year for Atayde:
“Pwede siyang dumaan sa pagsubok. Pwede siyang masangkot ang pangalan niya sa usapin ng pera… magiging stressful ang 2025 niya. Haharapin niya lang ito at patutunayan niya na hindi siya sangkot. Sa madaling salita, itong cards na ‘to, puwede siyang masangkot sa corruption na issue.”
Mamu added that Atayde’s wife, actress Maine Mendoza, would also feel the impact of the ordeal.
“Pero dalawa naman nilang haharapin and matatapos naman kung sakali. Pero tahimik nilang haharapin pareho,” she said.
Despite the ominous reading, Mamu reassured viewers that Atayde would weather the storm: “Malalampasan niya. Magiging tahimik lang siya, yung pakikipaglaban, hanggang sa maging maayos.”
Mendoza has also defended her husband on social media, rejecting the allegations: “Teka lang muna, those are baseless allegations. Please refrain from throwing hate and personal attacks at him, including me and our family until facts come out. I am with my husband in this.”
