The cast of ‘The Last Beergin’ may have regretted their first immersion on set — downing the infamous “beer and gin” mix — but they say it helped them slip into character for the Filipino dramedy that opens nationwide on October 1.

At the September 18 mediacon, Cherry Pie Picache admitted, “Mahirap i-memorize ang mga linya. Hindi na namin inulit.” Co-star JC Santos explained that trying the drink was part of their character immersion. “I hadn’t tried Beergin until I made this film. Actually, we did try it as immersion of sorts—para lang alam namin kung saan at paano nabuo yung idea for the film and use it in our portrayal.”
The film follows five strangers who end up in an all-night drinking spree, where laughter, confessions, and unexpected truths spill out as freely as the alcohol.
Director Nuel Naval described the project as “a toast to vulnerability, barkada-level bonding… More than a drinking story, The Last Beergin is a raw portrayal of modern Filipino life, inviting audiences to raise a glass and ask themselves: How much truth can you really take in one sitting?”
Screenwriter Mel del Rosario added that the film captures the bittersweet reality of being Filipino in 2025: “Emotionally loaded, quietly hurting, yet still showing up for the next round.”
The mediacon also revealed lighter moments. Asked about the line “kapag may alak, may balak,” Cherry Pie responded candidly: “Of course. Hindi naman na tayo mga bata. We all know that. Alcohol makes you bolder, less inhibited… and yeah, totoo naman.” Still, she shared her personal boundary: “I never get wasted. Nakakita na kasi ako years back nang isang artista na kinailangan buhatin sa sobrang kalasingan at sabi ko, I won’t be like that ever.”
Zaijian Jaranilla gave his own take: “May balak? As in…? Well, it depends really. Pwedeng may balak pero baka balak lang makipag-usap, makipagtawanan, makabuo ng friendship… so, ako, in that sense, yeah, I agree. Kapag may alak may balak.” He also reminded, “Kaya nga importante na kilala mo ang kainuman mo and drink in moderation.”
Meanwhile, Xyriel Manabat said her own “signal” to stop is when she becomes too talkative: “Madaldal na ako. Kapag ganun na, tigil na ako.” JC added with a laugh: “I’m a happy drunk. Makwento ako. Tawa lang ako ng tawa.”
Produced by Cineko Productions and Obra Cinema Productions—the team behind Family Matters and Family of Two—The Last Beergin stars Cherry Pie Picache, JC Santos, Zaijian Jaranilla, Xyriel Manabat, and Pepe Herrera.
The film asks: Sa shot ng buhay, ilan ang kaya mong itagay?
