Kapamilya host uses noontime show platform to highlight stark contrast between honest workers and those profiting from corruption

Television host and comedian Vice Ganda didn’t mince words during the September 15 episode of “It’s Showtime,” using the popular noontime show’s platform to call out individuals who brazenly display lavish lifestyles allegedly funded by corrupt practices.
The moment unfolded during the show’s “Laro Laro Pick” segment, which spotlights hardworking breadwinners from across the country. When studio player Rei, a pharmacy assistant, was asked about her workplace, she whispered her response, uncertain whether mentioning the brand name on national television was appropriate.
“Sige sabihin mo, wag kang mahiya” (Go ahead, say it, don’t be shy), Vice encouraged. When Rei finally revealed she works at Watsons, the exchange sparked a broader commentary from the outspoken host about societal double standards.
“Tingnan mo, kung sino pa ‘yung nagtatrabaho ng legal at marangal, minsan sila pa ‘yung nahihiya” (Look at that – those who work legally and honorably are sometimes the ones who feel ashamed), Vice observed, highlighting the irony of honest workers feeling hesitant while corrupt individuals operate with impunity.
The comedian’s critique intensified as she contrasted this humility with the bold displays of wealth by those allegedly involved in illegal activities. “Pero, ‘yung mga ilegal ngayon, ang tatapang no? Tapos proud, pa-post post, di ba? Pa-interview, ‘ay, andami naming sasakyan no!'” (But those involved in illegal activities are so bold now, aren’t they? And proud, posting everywhere, right? Giving interviews saying, ‘Oh, we have so many cars!’)
Vice’s commentary appeared to reference recent controversies involving children of high-ranking officials and government contractors who have faced scrutiny for their ostentatious displays of wealth on social media. Her mimicking of their apparent attitudes drew audience reactions as she continued: “‘Yung walang takot na maimbestigahan? Ilegal pa ‘yun ha, walang takot?!” (Those who aren’t afraid of being investigated? Even though it’s illegal, they’re not afraid?!)
The host went further, satirically imitating the boastful attitudes she criticized: “May chopper ang tatay ko, ‘yung ganyan! May resort ang nanay ko!” (My dad has a helicopter! My mom has a resort!) – seemingly targeting so-called “nepo babies” who allegedly benefit from their families’ connections to corrupt politicians and government contractors.
Vice Ganda has consistently used her platform to address social and political issues, earning both praise and criticism for her outspoken nature. Her latest comments come amid ongoing public discourse about corruption in government and the stark wealth disparities visible in Filipino society.
The segment resonated with viewers who have long observed the contrast between humble, hardworking citizens and those who appear to flaunt ill-gotten wealth without consequence. Vice’s ability to weave serious social commentary into entertainment programming has become a hallmark of her hosting style.
Returning to her original point about Rei’s workplace hesitation, Vice concluded: “Pero sila nahihiya pa, marangal naman trabaho nila” (But they’re still shy, even though their work is honorable), emphasizing how the current climate has seemingly inverted societal shame – where honest workers feel modest while corrupt individuals operate boldly.
The episode highlights Vice Ganda’s continued role as both entertainer and social commentator, using her influential platform to spotlight issues that matter to ordinary Filipino families while celebrating the dignity of honest work.
