Karen Davila calls out officials who underdeclare wealth: ‘Walang masama sa pagkakaroon ng pera, huwag lang galing sa kaban ng bayan!’

Veteran broadcast journalist Karen Davila has spoken out about the recently released Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN) of public officials, calling for honesty and transparency amid ongoing concerns about corruption in government.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday morning, October 30, the ABS-CBN news anchor reminded politicians that there is nothing wrong with being wealthy — as long as their riches are earned legitimately.

“The SALNs are out,” she wrote.

“I hope our public officials stop under declaring their wealth by technicality, making themselves appear ‘poorer’ than they truly are. This will bite you in the a** one day.”

Davila emphasized that public service should never be used as a means for personal enrichment: “Walang masama sa pagkakaroon ng pera, huwag lang galing sa kaban ng bayan,” she added.

Her post comes as citizens once again call for transparency and accountability among government officials, particularly in light of alleged anomalies involving public funds and infrastructure projects.

In a separate tweet, Davila dropped what she called an insider update from her sources regarding congressional budget maneuvers.

“I hope we don’t end up with a reenacted budget,” she wrote.

“My sources tell me yung flood control nilipat lang ng Kongreso sa ayuda. The ‘slush fund’ remains. Sana naman bumili na sila ng konsensya.”

The award-winning journalist has long been vocal about issues of corruption, misuse of public funds, and the need for integrity among public servants — a stance that has earned her both praise and criticism online.

Davila’s latest remarks have since gone viral, with netizens echoing her call for greater transparency and conscience-driven leadership.
