Kapamilya actress and ‘It’s Showtime’ host Anne Curtis sparked discussion online after sharing her thoughts on how Singapore addresses corruption, drawing comparisons with the situation in the Philippines.

In a series of posts on X on Wednesday, December 17, Curtis expressed admiration for Singapore’s zero-tolerance approach to corruption, noting how it contributed to the country’s development and efficient governance.
“Random thought whilst in Singapore – NAKAKAINGGIT SILA,” Curtis wrote. “Upon reading, corruption USED to be widespread until they had leader, Lee Kuan Yew, who had zero tolerance policy for corruption.”
She added that the results of that approach are evident today. “Cut to this day, Singapore is thriving. A beautifully developed city, smooth roads, a gorgeous airport, proper public transportation, stunning infrastructure and yet I still see green around the city.”
While acknowledging that corruption has not been entirely eliminated, Curtis pointed out the accountability of public officials. “Although, after reading, the temptation of greed from officials are still there BUT once they are caught they are punished immediately,” she said.
The actress then turned her attention to the Philippines, particularly amid ongoing public scrutiny of alleged anomalous flood control and infrastructure projects.
“Paano na tayo Pilipinas? Ano na kaya mangyayari?” Curtis asked. She went on to express hope that voters would eventually elect leaders committed to combating corruption. “I pray so hard we will all collectively vote for a leader who will want to fight corruption one day.”
Curtis also lamented what she described as lost opportunities for the country. “Sayang… Pilipinas. We have beautiful mountains, the best beaches and islands in the world (for me). GREED has stolen the opportunity for this country to reach its FULL beautiful potential,” she wrote.
She added, “Sana… sana talaga one day. Maybe not in my lifetime but I pray for all the future Filipinos. But we have to stand up for that now. Haaaaay. Naiiyak ako.”
In a separate post, Curtis reacted to a netizen’s call for Filipinos to closely monitor the bicameral conference committee’s budget deliberations for 2026. Responding to an art card that read, “No Filipino Should Have To Beg For Healthcare,” she commented on the alleged misuse of public funds.
“Dami pala pera ng Pilipinas noh? But all the budget that should have been towards healthcare or education eh napunta sa luxury cars, houses and I’m sure that money is in offshore accounts now,” Curtis wrote.
“So sad that we will never be able to get that money back. So sad that it will never be used for the better of the people noh?” she added.
Curtis, who has previously joined public actions against corruption, shared her reflections as Filipinos continue to await accountability for those allegedly involved in irregular flood control and infrastructure projects, with only days remaining before Christmas.
