Some mornings, all I want is a moment of calm—a quiet workspace, a peaceful commute, a brief escape from the constant clamor of the city.
But life rarely cooperates. MRT announcements, overlapping conversations, traffic, and that relentless urban hum are hard to tune out.

For a long time, I thought finding earbuds with real noise cancellation, solid sound quality, and smart features—without spending a small fortune—was unrealistic. Then I spent nearly two weeks with the HUAWEI FreeBuds 7i, using them at work, during errands, and even on early morning runs. I didn’t expect much going in, but the experience genuinely surprised me.
Lightweight Design. The first thing I noticed was how light they felt. Each earbud weighs just 5.4 grams, and that makes a real difference over long sessions. I’ve worn them through back-to-back online meetings and extended playlists without any discomfort or pressure fatigue.
The box includes four ear-tip sizes, so getting a snug, secure fit was easy. Once properly seated, they already reduce background noise passively—even before switching ANC on. Add the IP54 rating, and I didn’t worry about sweat during runs or light rain on my commute.
Noise Cancellation. The FreeBuds 7i use Intelligent Dynamic ANC 4.0, rated to reduce ambient noise by up to 55 decibels. In real-world use, that translated to air-conditioner hum fading into the background, traffic noise softening, and café chatter becoming far less distracting.
It’s not absolute silence—but that’s not the point. What it creates is a pocket of calm that makes it easier to focus, whether I’m editing, answering emails, or just trying to decompress during a commute. The adaptive nature of the ANC really shines as it adjusts based on where I am.
Sound Quality. These earbuds are powered by 11mm quad-magnet dynamic drivers, and the tuning leans toward clarity and balance. Vocals sound clean and forward, mids are detailed, and bass is tight without overwhelming the mix.
Using the Huawei AI Life app, I tweaked the sound via the 10-band EQ to match my preferences. Support for LDAC and Hi-Res Audio Wireless also means higher-quality streams when paired with compatible devices.

The real surprise, though, was Unlimited Spatial Audio with head tracking. As I move my head, the sound subtly shifts, creating a more immersive, almost cinematic feel—especially when watching videos. This feature works across Android and iOS and isn’t locked to specific apps, which is rare at this price point.
Call Quality. I take a lot of calls, and this is where the FreeBuds 7i truly impressed me. With a six-microphone system, including an AI bone-conduction mic, my voice stayed clear even when I was walking along a busy street or dealing with background noise at home.
Background sounds—traffic, barking dogs, nearby conversations—were effectively suppressed. For remote work, online meetings, or quick calls on the go, these earbuds are extremely reliable.
Small Features. Touch controls are intuitive and responsive:
- Double-tap for play/pause or answering calls
- Triple-tap to skip tracks
- Swipe up or down for volume
- Touch-and-hold to cycle through ANC modes
Head-motion gestures are a thoughtful bonus. I found myself nodding to answer calls and shaking my head to decline when my hands were full—small, but genuinely useful.
Bluetooth 5.4 keeps connections stable, and switching between devices is smooth and frustration-free.
Battery Life. Battery life is another strong point. With the charging case, I consistently got close to 35 hours of total playback. The case fully charges in about an hour, and a quick 10-minute top-up gives around four hours of listening—perfect for last-minute dashes out the door.
While there’s no wireless charging, the fast charging more than makes up for it in daily use.
Seamless Across Devices. I tested the FreeBuds 7i with both Android and iOS devices, and compatibility was never an issue. The AI Life app unlocks deeper customization—EQ settings, gesture controls, firmware updates—but even without the app, the core experience stays solid: good sound, effective ANC, and clear calls.
Tech Jungle’s Verdict. After two weeks of real-world use, I understand why these earbuds get so much praise. The HUAWEI FreeBuds 7i strike an impressive balance between comfort, performance, and smart features—without an inflated price tag.
For commuters, remote workers, or anyone craving a break from everyday noise without overspending, the FreeBuds 7i are an easy recommendation. They don’t just perform well for their price—they perform well, period. (Lau Balocos/Benedick Marasigan)
