Kapuso actress Shaira Diaz and former Kapamilya star Kristel Fulgar recently collaborated in a vlog where they opened up about a deeply personal choice they have in common: both remained virgins until marriage.

Shaira is married to actor EA Guzman, while Kristel tied the knot with her South Korean husband, Suhyuk Ha. During their candid conversation, the two actresses spoke about why they chose to preserve their virginity and why they are not ashamed to talk about it publicly.
According to Shaira, her decision was rooted both in a promise to her parents and in her personal convictions.
She admitted she was also afraid of getting pregnant at a young age, feeling she was not yet ready to become a mother. For her, staying a virgin was not just about tradition or religion—it was also about responsibility and self-discipline.
Kristel, for her part, said it had always been her goal to give her virginity only to the man she would marry.
“Sabi nila, kapag kunwari, ganitong age ka tapos virgin, parang nakakahiya. No. Parang for me, it’s something to be proud of,” Kristel said.
Shaira agreed, adding, “And it’s normal.”
Though they belong to different religious backgrounds, both actresses said that their stance is aligned with Biblical teachings. Shaira shared that her parents once told her that the most beautiful gift she could give her future husband was her purity.
Despite their strong personal stance, the two clarified that they are not judging those who choose premarital sex.
“We respect them. Hindi mo naman kailangan mag-regret kung naibigay mo kaagad siya (virginity). No judgment about that. Para sa amin, awareness lang sa youth ngayon na it’s possible and doable siya,” they emphasized.
Kristel also addressed criticism that they were “oversharing” by talking about their virginity online.
“For me, gusto ko rin ma-motivate ‘yung mga ibang kabataan na maging proud sila kung ano ‘yung gusto nilang panindigan,” she explained, noting that many young followers messaged her saying they felt encouraged after hearing her story.
Shaira added a practical perspective, pointing out how difficult it is to build a family in the Philippines without proper family planning.
“Ang daming maagang nabubuntis kasi hindi sila educated sa ganu’ng bagay,” she said.
Both actresses also shared that they are in no rush to have children despite public pressure.
Kristel revealed she told her husband to give her at least a year before starting a family, saying they are still in the stage of getting to know each other more deeply as husband and wife.
“Nandito pa kami sa talagang getting to know pa yung isa’t isa eh. Ang dami pa naming ine-explore,” she said.
