Despite being an ally of President Rodrigo Duterte, Congresswoman Joy Myra Salvador Tambunting strongly expressed her support for ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal to push through.
As the Principal Author of House Bill 3713 that aims to renew the franchise of the giant network, Tambunting firmly believes that ABS-CBN is not just a TV station where viewers get to watch shows every day but the network is a Filipino symbol.
“I fully support ABS CBN in its bid to renew its franchise. I am the Principal Author of House Bill 3713 which seeks to renew the franchise of ABS CBN. ABS CBN is not just a TV station. It is a Filipino symbol whose programs unite Filipinos here and abroad. I strongly agree with ABS CBN’s giving importance to family. Tunay na Kapamilya!”
As per the congresswoman, ABS-CBN’s programs unite our countrymen both here in the Philippines and abroad. In fact, she was able to land her first professional career in the network as an executive producer, where she has learned to have dignity of work from God, accuracy, and respect for work.
“One of my first jobs in my professional career was as an executive producer with ABS-CBN . My mentors in ABS CBN taught me a lot about work, hard work, respect for work, accuracy at work, love for co-workers and most of all the dignity of work from God. Congresswoman Tambunting is just one of the many allies of Duterte that bravely showed support for ABS-CBN franchise renewal. Other leaders and administration allies opposed to President Duterte’s threat of not renewing the franchise include:
- Deputy Speaker Vilma Santos-Recto from Batangas
- Rose Marie Arenas from Pangasinan
- Aurelio Gonzales Jr. from Pampanga
- Johnny Pimentel from Surigao del Sur
Meanwhile, Nueva Ecija 2nd district Rep. Micaela Violago filed House Bill 676 as early as July to ensure uninterrupted service of the network for Filipino families. Also, Albay 2nd district Rep. Joey Salceda and Laguna 3rd district Rep. Sol Aragones filed a similar bill.
Aragones appealed, “I appeal to the President to reconsider his position on the renewal of ABS-CBN’s franchise, as its non-renewal or its sale to third parties may threaten the livelihoods of over 11,000 employees, many of whom I worked with during my stint as a reporter in the network.”
Among the House leaders opposed to the President’s position towards the network’s franchise renewal is Mindoro Occidental Rep. Josephine Ramirez-Sato who filed the recent bill last December 11, 2019.
