Two weeks ago, Nadine Lustre strongly denied she and James Reid had broken up. She lambasted the veteran columnist Ricky Lo for publishing an article in The Philippine Star about the breakup and alleging her mental health was a factor.
“First off, that was so low @therealrickylo @philippinestar. Second, none of what you said was true and it is never okay to use someone’s mental situation/tragic past just to prove a point. Mental illness is a very sensitive matter. And last, you think you know so much about me, you can’t even get my last name right. Anu na, 2020 na!”
King of Talk Boy Abunda confirmed JaDine’s breakup during the January 20, 2020 episode of Tonight With Boy Abunda where he read a joint statement from the former couple.
“It’s true that we have split up but not for all the reason that is being spread on the tabloids and social media but because after quiet and mature conversations, we decided to focus on ourselves not only for our careers but more for our personal growth as we are still young and we want to achieve as much as we can.
“We agreed that going separate ways was best for both of us. We are in good terms and are still really good friends and will continue to work with each other especially when it comes to music.
“Thank you for all the JADINE FANS for their undying support and we hope you continue to support us now and in the future. We shall forever be grateful to them for their love and understanding. Thank You.”
After Boy Abunda read the statement, Lo thanked James and Nadine for telling the truth, even when the latter debunked his article two weeks ago.
Ricky said, “I should thank James Reid and Nadine Lustre for confirming in a joint statement that they have broken up, exactly two weeks after I broke the story in my STAR column. – that is, after Nadine denied it with impunity.”
Though the Kapamilya actress denied his story, Ricky was able to keep himself calm and wait for the right moment.
He continued, “I kept my cool and just said, just wait and see even when Nadine (while James remained silent) lambasted me for being a liar (purveyor of fake news) and thus emboldening her fans to relentlessly doing the same on social media. As the STAR blurb says, the truth shall prevail.”
At the end of his statement, Ricky reiterated that he is a journalist who will always stand for the truth.
“In my many decades as a Journalist, I always stand for the truth and write ‘delicate’ stories (like the James-Nadine breakup) only when given to me by reliable sources and after double-checking. In any case, whether showbiz or elsewhere, honesty is the best policy.
“O, Nadine, ano na? 2020 na!!”
