Rangel Fernandez releases solo single, ‘Hanggang Saan’

RANGEL (aka Rangel Fernandez) started singing when she was around 3 years old. As she grew older, her mom taught her Celine Dion and Aegis songs on the karaoke and exposed her to several barangay competitions, before she actually had the confidence to do so. Entering school, she slowly had the will to join singing competitions on her own, being constantly motivated by her friends and teachers.

As she grew older, she became more fond of listening to artists like Taylor Swift, Up Dharma Down and Silent Sanctuary, and wrote her first song at the age of 13, entitled “Bakit?”- a song about wondering the world works, why people leave, why one could never be enough, why people always have something to say in everything that you do, and so on. She found songwriting as an outlet for her emotions, but didn’t do it on the regular, focusing on her studies at the time.

After being rejected in her audition for THE VOICE PH twice, she was discouraged and stopped joining contests for a while. Singing became more of a hobby until she found a curiosity in playing the guitar and used it as her main instrument when she started doing covers on Facebook and Youtube.

She got discovered when one of her covers went viral, which eventually led her to her unexpected journey at Eat Bulaga’s MUSIC HERO: The Vocal Battle, where she got into the Finals and became one of the vocalists of the band, along with Manly Ocampo.

Having the chance to rekindle her passion for music with Music Hero, she wrote “KLWKN” (read as, “Kalawakan”) in 2018 with her band mate, Fender Dimalanta, and successfully released the song in February 2019. It wasn’t until 2020 that the song got to soar and became hit. But due to the members’ mutual decision, Music Hero disbanded and went inactive.

During the pandemic, Rangel continued to write and release a few songs on her Youtube channel and worked with Yellow Room Music Philippines on her track “Siya Ba O Ako”, which tackles the victim blaming when it comes to rape. Later on, she was featured in the 8th album of Mayonnaise, on their track “Kailan Ba Ako Gagaling”.

Now, her latest single, “HANGGANG SAAN”, is a song about the fear of abandonment, inspired by a particular scene in Frances H. Burnett’s “A Little Princess” where Sarah’s father had to go to India for work. Inspired by the moment and her own experiences, it tells the story of how it feels like to be helpless in a state where you couldn’t do anything but watch when someone who matters so much in your life has to walk away.

“HANGGANG SAAN” is produced by award-winning record producer, Mr. Jonathan Ong, and released by SONIC STATE RECORDING STUDIO and DITTO MUSIC. It is now available for streaming in Spotify & other major digital platforms.
