After Alan Peter Cayetano and 70-strong lawmakers shut down the network, netizens find it ironic for the congressman to place ads on ABS-CBN

Netizens are amused to hear a politician who placed a political advertisement on ABS-CBN spearheading its shutdown in 2020.

Cayetano has created a commercial calling to his fellow lawmakers to aid the public amid the surge of cases in the Philippines. The former Speaker of the House, through the advertisement, urged other politicians to pass House Bill no. 8597 or the Bangon Pamilyang Pilipino Assistance Program Act of 2021.

He then placed it on TV networks, including ABS-CBN, on July 3.

Upon seeing Cayetano’s politically motivated ad, netizens found it ironic to have the politician seek help from the Network he shut down.

Some netizens pointed that the congressmen who voted to reject ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal bid should not put their political ads on the Network.

In another tweet, the Netizen hoped that ABS-CBN would not accept any political ads coming from those who helped shut down the Network. Moreover, she noted that TV stations must not take any political commercials before the election campaign period.

Others were surprised with Cayetano’s audacity has for placing his political advertisement on ABS-CBN.

He then stressed that the congressman was against the network’s franchise renewal and yet has the face to put ads on the Kapamilya Channel and A2Z.

Alan Peter Cayetano’s integumentary system has reached the thickness of the cardboards you use for taekwondo armors. Imagine his eyeglasses-wearing, pale face which looks like an underdeveloped testicle, ending up advertising himself on ABS-CBN.

A netizen was shocked to know that ABS-CBN accepted a political ad from Cayetano.

He also said that Cayetano should have used his resources to help those who are in need and not spend for political campaigns instead.

Seriously, tinanggap ng abs ung ad campaign ni cayetano? Diba isa yan sa Mga nagpasara ng station nyo? And kay cayetano, aga naman ata nyang pangangampanya. Kung sana itinulong mo na lang yan.

Another got dismayed that ABS-CBN aired Cayetano’s ad during FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano, their opening salvo for their Primetime Bida lineup.

In 2016, Cayetano accused ABS-CBN of blocking his political advertisement.

However, on May 7, 2016, through a statement, the Network denied such allegation.

“ABS-CBN did not block the airing of Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano’s political advertisement.

“The ethics committee only requested that the footage showing our network executives in the ‘Harapan ng Bise’ debate be edited-out from the ad. However, we did not receive the revised material.

“ABS-CBN also did not object to the use of the footage from the ‘Harapan ng Bise’ debate in the same ad for airing in other TV stations.”

Same with the claims of the Government against ABS-CBN. During the hearings done for the network’s franchise bid–it proved that it did not commit any infractions that would still result in its shutdown.

There were testimonies from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the state-owned bank Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) clearing ABS-CBN of any outstanding debt from the government.

Such testimonies, however, were pointless as the franchise committee on July 10, 2020, denied the Network of its franchise renewal, with a vote of 70-11.
