Pinoy pop group SB19 emerged as the big winner in the MYX Awards 2021, winning three major categories Artist of the Year, Music Video of the Year, and Song of the Year, while Pinoy folk-rock band Asin was honored with the MYX Magna recognition for its major contribution to Original Pilipino Music (OPM).

SB19, who also dominated last year’s music awards, won Song of the Year for their hit single “Alab” which also won Music Video of the Year for the accompanying visual directed by Julienne Gueco.

OPM icon Lolita Carbon received the MYX Magna award for Asin, the band behind the classics “Balita,” “Masdan Mo Ang Kapaligiran,” and “Himig Ng Pag-ibig” who pioneered the use of traditional Filipino instruments in popular music.

The highly anticipated annual music recognition, which determines its winners from fan votes (60%) and artists’ poll (40%), happened virtually last Saturday (August 7) via MYX’s social media pages.

The New Artist of the Year award went to rapper-songwriter Matthaois, while “Dynamite” by BTS was hailed as International Video of the Year.

Ben&Ben earned two wins—Collaboration of the Year with Moira dela Torre for “Paalam” and Mellow Video of the Year for “Sa Susunod na Habang Buhay” video directed by Jorel Lising. Rock Video of the Year went to COLN for “Lakas” directed by Vladimer Castañeto, while Michael Pacquaio’s “Love” directed by Edrex Clyde Sanchez and Nick Hernandez won R&B/Hip Hop Video of the Year.

MYX also conferred two distinctive recognitions this year—the Special Achievement Award for Nadine Lustre for her stunning visual album “Wildest Dreams” and the Global Achievement Award for Filipino-American singer Olivia Rodrigo who is making an impact in the industry with her music.

For the first time, MYX also gave recognition to an outstanding livestreamer via the Kumu Music Streamer of the Year award that went to Jex de Castro.

Aside from honoring the past year’s favorite artists and videos, the musical event also showcased numerous foreign and local artists with their amazing performances.

Catch the television premiere of #MYXAwards2021 on August 14 (Saturday) 8pm on MYX via SKYcable ch. 23 and Cignal ch. 150. For more details, follow MYX Philippines on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, kumu, TikTok, and Instagram.
