One of ABS-CBN’s biggest antagonists in Congress, Rep. Rodante Marcoleta is running for Senator this coming 2022 national elections.

House Deputy Speaker Marcoleta filed his candidacy for Senator on October 8.

As labeled by Sen. Richard Gordon, Marcoleta is the ‘demolition expert’ behind the non-renewal of ABS-CBN’s franchise causing the shut down of the Network.

He is one of the most vocal adversaries of the Network and one of the 70-congressmen who voted for the non-renewal of ABS-CBN’s franchise despite being cleared by different regulatory agencies.

Marcoleta is also an advocate of Ivermectin as medication for COVID-19, going against the medical experts’ recommendations.

In September, Marcoleta, together with Rep. Mike Defensor and Sen. Francis Tolentino, filed a petition to legalize the use of Ivermectin as COVID-19 treatment. No studies or evidence existing to prove the effectiveness of the drug against COVID-19, reiterated by DoH.

“We do not recommend the use of Ivermectin for the treatment of COVID-19. It has not proven to significantly reduce mortality nor to improve other clinical outcomes,” Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said on September 17.

Marcoleta earned the ire of netizens because of this decision of running for a Senatorial position.

@desamting pointed out that Marcoleta also moved to allocate a 1,000 pesos budget for the Commission on Human Rights in 2018.

Marcoleta represented the Social Amelioration & Genuine Intervention on Poverty Partylist (SAGIP) Partylist in Congress since 2016.
