ABS-CBN announces the start of its search for the next ‘Idol Philippines’

A week after its first grand winner signed with ABS-CBN’s rival network, Idol Philippines announced the second season of the hit singing reality search.

Idol Philippines is having a second season, and it is coming “..very soon”. A teaser plug released by ABS-CBN yesterday, April 7, confirmed that the long-overdue sophomore season of the ABS-CBN’s version of the global reality-singing search is finally arriving. The announcement came a week after the first Idol Philippines winner, Zephanie Dimaranan, confirmed her transfer to GMA Network. Dimaranan was declared the first Idol Philippines in July 2019. Her last engagement with ABS-CBN is as one of ASAP Natin ‘To’s New Gen Birit Queens.

There are no words yet as to whether James Reid, Moira de la Torre, Vice Ganda, and Regine Velasquez, are keeping their places as members of the show’s judging panel. What is affirmative, however, is that the first season’s presenter, Billy Crawford, will no longer host the show. Crawford is now with TV5.

Netizens’ speculations are right! Idol Philippines Season 2 will be the new show to replace the ongoing season of the hit reality show, Pinoy Big Brother, whose Big Night will take place in a month. Idol aspirants have limited time to prep up for auditions and make their dreams come true as the next idol Philippines grand winner.

Aside from Dimaranan, the first season of the reality search also spawned several artists who have made a career for themselves after the show. Enzo Almario, Lucas Garcia, and Matty Juniosa–collectively known as the IDolls, placed impressively on the show.

Other alumni who also found fame, regardless of their placement on the show, included Pinoy Big Brother’s Anji Salvacion and Shania Gomez. Fana and Trisha Denise, who made waves during their respective audition, also became certified recording stars.
