Broadcast journalist Ted Failon looks into the job of the PAGASA (Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration) weather forecasters, whom people entrust their lives and properties to in times of weather disturbances.

Now that rainy season has officially begun, people rely on PAGASA’s reports especially when there are impending typhoons. When inaccurate forecasts come out, it is the agency and the weather forecasters who take the blame and criticisms.

How hard is it to be a weather forecaster? One of the forecasters tells “Failon Ngayon” that a number of his colleagues at PAGASA are resigning one by one due to low salary vis-a-vis the huge responsibility. Can people still expect accurate weather reports in spite of the forecasters’ exodus to foreign lands?

Meanwhile, according to recent news, the purchase of new trains for the MRT and LRT lines has been postponed until 2016.

Old trains of MRT and LRT lines are having frequent malfunctions that cause delay and inconvenience to millions of commuters. However, the commuters are still patronizing them because of the speed in transportation. MRT and LRT are also the best to ride when there are floods. But according to DOTC, fare hike on MRT and LRT will be implemented once new trains arrived. How will the commuters react on the fare hike?

Get the full reports in “Failon Ngayon” this Saturday (June 22), 4:45 PM, after “SOCO” on ABS-CBN. Replays air on ANC (SkyCable Channel 27) every Sunday, at 2PM.
