On July 9, Katrina Dovey voiced her thoughts on sex education and condoms in school.
During the media conference for the remaining episodes of High On Sex, Dovey highlighted the benefit of having open communication between parents and children on top of sex education in school.
“Kasi, in High School and Grade School, actually. I already went through sex education. And we were taught the scientific sides of a penis and a vagina, reproduction, and all of these things.
“But I think this conversation needs to continue at home with their parents with their friends–who they trust. Kasi, doon talaga mai- in-depth ‘yung conversation where you can ask anything. Well, supposedly, without feeling scared to ask, and sana ganoon ‘yung mangyari and ma-adapt natin sa county, more open communication between parents and their kids when it /comes to sex. I think that’s starting now, especially with like this, sana, it helps.”
As for condom distribution in schools, Dovey favored it, citing her own experience and observations as a high school student.
“For the condoms naman po, I think they should be in schools, but I think that is just personally, kasi po, I witnessed kids in my school having sex on campus, and I know it happens. Para sa akin, at least they have the resources to do it safely and not spread diseases if they decide to partake in intercourse.”
Dovey also talked about her assessment of herself as a Viva actress.
“For me, as an actor, there are always improvements to make, and I always try to watch–I mean, I watch every film I do, and I try to see how I can improve and which areas I need to pick up on, isa po doon ‘yung pag-Tagalog ko. Kailangan ko po mag practice.
“But of course, I’m proud of the outcome, and I’m proud of what we created together. And I’m still really/ happy with it.”
