In the midst of the ongoing debate over the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board’s (MTRCB) actions against Vice Ganda and Ion Perez, veteran columnist Cristy Fermin made headlines for calling out motivational speaker Rendon Labador for alleged “sawsaw” or unwarranted meddling.
In her program “Cristy Ferminute” on August 1, Cristy Fermin raised questions about Rendon Labador’s involvement in the MTRCB’s decision to scrutinize the alleged indecent gestures made by the It’s Showtime hosts during the “Isip Bata” segment on July 25.
Although Rendon Labador’s name was not explicitly mentioned, netizens speculated that he was the individual being referred to in Cristy’s statement. The motivational speaker gained attention on social media for taking credit for the MTRCB’s actions against the show’s hosts.
Furthermore, Rendon Labador challenged MTRCB Chairperson Lala Sotto to prove that she would prioritize her duty over her family, particularly in investigating her own father, Tito Sotto, who publicly expressed his love for his wife, Helen Gamboa.
Cristy Fermin commented, “Si MTRCB Chairwoman Lala Sotto-Antonio ay nasa gitna ng kontrobersiya ngayon. Hindi na po namin babanggitin kung sino ‘yung nagpapasimuno sa panliligalig ngayon sa tagapamuno ng MTRCB, sayang po ang ating oras ‘pag binanggit natin.”
“Pero ito pong taong ‘to dispalinghado ang mga opinyon nito. Iniisip po niya dahil pinatawag ni Chairwoman Lala Sotto ang produksyon ng Showtime, siya ang dahilan! Nanalo siya dun sa mga panawagan na kailangang bigyan ng leksyon si Ion Perez at si Vice Ganda.
Addressing Rendon Labador’s criticism of Tito Sotto, Cristy reminded him that the former Senate President is no longer a public official.
“Aba, ang inuulaol naman niya ngayon sina dating Senate President Tito Sotto at Ate Helen Gamboa… Nananawagan siya, isa raw siya sa mga bumoto kay Kuya Tito bilang senador… Alam kaya niya na matagal nang wala sa gobyerno si dating Senate President Tito Sotto?”
Cristy Fermin also pointed out Rendon Labador’s penchant for picking fights and meddling in various issues without substantial basis.
“Lahat na lang inaaway niya… Ikaw talaga, mahilig kang makisawsaw. Mahilig kang makiangkas. Mahilig kang maggagawa ng kuwento kahit wala namang basehan. Lahat na lang hindi maganda para sa iyo.”
