On October 10, the Danish pop band Lukas Graham lead Lukas Forchhammer recalled writing their hit song ‘7 Years’ when he was 24 and how it impacted his life.
At the media event for their upcoming concert ‘Lukas Graham: Asia 2023,’ which LionhearTV covered, Forchhammer surmised that he ‘prophesized’ his life while writing ‘7 Years,’ noting how similar his life has been to some verses of the hit song.
“I was 25 when I wrote the song–24. So, the first half of the song was about the life [that] I’ve been living–traveling and starting to write songs. And the second half [of the song] was about the life I dream of living.
“When I wrote the song, I didn’t have any kids–now, I have kids. When I wrote the song, I didn’t have a wife–I mean, I got the wife, and when I wrote the song, we didn’t travel all around the world singing– and now that’s what we do every year. So the song is like I wrote the prophecy of my own life in some sense.”
He also noted how much he enjoys performing ‘7 Years’ on stage, especially with how it launched his music career.
“I still enjoy singing 7 Years live a lot because it’s the song that changed my life– it’s the song that allowed me to travel all over the world, and among the places I visited is the Philippines.”
While Forchhammer remained grateful for the success of ‘7 Years,’ he clarified that he writes and sings songs about his life.
“No, not really. I think each song is its own, and yeah, I don’t know. I’m really grateful for what 7 Years did for my career, and I love singing the song live. But every time I go into the studio, I sing and write songs about where I am in my life now.
“So I can’t ever replicate a song like 7 Years. 7 Years is 7 Years, Love Someone is Love Someone, and I really enjoy that. I think artists that try and replicate their own successes, I think they really struggle to find peace.”
The Danish band Lukas Graham includes Lukas Forchhammer, Mark Falgren, and Magnus Larsson. They’ve released hit songs such as ‘7 Years’ and ‘Love Someone.’
Their one-night concert happens on October 22 at the New Frontier Theater in Quezon City.
