On September 29, Philippines Concert Queen Pops Fernandez revealed why she joined Viva’s roster of artists.
At the media event for her contract signing with Viva Artist Agency, which LionhearTV covered, Fernandez remarked that she wanted to work some more after going into ‘semi-retirement.’
“I think it’s because nga, I wanted to work more. Di ba, there was a time na gusto kong–nag-ambition naman akong mag semi-retire, and I enjoyed that because that’s [the] time I started producing. I still am producing, but sabi ko, parang pwede pa ulit.”
She also admitted that she missed performing after collaborating with artists while she was in the U.S.
“Because ‘yung mga shows na ginagawa ko sa America, ‘yung mga ka-collab ko, na-realize ko na ‘Ay, nakaka-miss pala siya.’ Once po talaga na makakanta ka ulit, and you’re back on stage, parang na-realize ko na this is where I want to be.Â
“And na-excite ako ulit, so sabi ko, ‘Sige, I want to work some more. Habang kaya ko pa, habang may energy pa ako.’ Sabi ko, ‘Why not?’ So yes, I think that’s the reason why.”
She recounted doing some projects under Viva, such as the 1999 film ‘Linlang’ wherein she got a Best Supporting Actress nomination from FAMAS.
“Madami akong favorite, but top of mind, ‘yung nabanggit ninyo nga, ‘yung ‘Linlang’ because that was like–madaming story behind it and that was the time na single ako ulit. So it meant a lot for me alam mo ‘yun. It was very dramatic. Again, like I said, why I mentioned that kasi nga ano, na nominate ako as Best Supporting Actress doon.”
Fernandez starred with Richard Gomez and Joyce Jimenez in the Fernandez Maryo J. de los Reyes movie.
Aside from her FAMAS nomination, she also got two Best Supporting Actress nominations for ‘Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah’ from Gawad Urian Awards and Star Awards for the Movies in 2007.
Fernandez also hosts the TV5 OPM-inspired romantic anthology series, ‘For The Love,’ which showcases her singing talent in each episode.
She recently released the song ‘Always Loved’ under Star Music, which she co-wrote with Trisha Denise, Sab, Jeremy G, and Star Music director Jonathan Manalo.
Fernandez would also stage a one-night pre-Valentine’s Day concert event in February 2024.
