Filipino boy band BGYO has filed a complaint against their online bashers at the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.
The complaint, lodged on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, by members Gelo, Akira, JL, Mikki, and Nate, addresses the severe cyberbullying they have faced.
According to PEP reports, the BGYO team identified the individuals behind the anonymous dummy accounts used for the attacks, revealing their true identities.
In a surprising twist, it is alleged that a celebrity is involved in the case, although their name has not been disclosed.
Since their debut in 2021, BGYO has been the subject of numerous unfounded allegations, ranging from cheating to drug use, primarily spread on social media platforms.
In response to the escalating cyberbullying, Star Magic, the talent management arm of ABS-CBN, announced in April its intent to take legal action against those responsible for spreading these baseless rumors.
Atty. Joji Alonso, legal counsel for Star Magic, emphasized their commitment to working with government agencies and private entities to gather substantial evidence and ensure that the perpetrators are held accountable.
BGYO, formed through ABS-CBN’s Star Hunt Academy, quickly gained popularity with their debut track ‘The Light’ and subsequent hits such as ‘Tumitigil Ang Mundo’ and ‘He’s Into Her.’ Despite their success, the group has been persistently targeted by cyberbullying, prompting this significant legal response.
