Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival returns for its second year with greater opportunities for filmmakers

The Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival is back for its second year, with its introductory press conference held at the Gateway Cineplex 18 on July 23, signaling the start of another promising chapter for Filipino filmmakers.

Following the success of its inaugural run, this year’s festival aims to provide even more opportunities for showcasing the talent, creativity, and dedication of filmmakers across the country.

Building on last year’s achievements, Puregold has significantly increased the funding pool for selected filmmakers. Seven full-length directors will receive production grants of PHP 3,000,000 each, while 25 student short film directors will receive grants of PHP 150,000 each. This year’s festival will award seven full-length film grants, up from last year’s six.

During the press conference, organizers reiterated their commitment to seeking film entries that highlight the resilience and spirit of Filipinos through uplifting and inspiring “panalo stories.” Aspiring filmmakers are required to submit a complete screenplay and other necessary documents by July 30 for full-length films and August 15 for student shorts.

To inspire participation, directors from last year’s event shared their experiences. Always Panalo Film awardee Carlo Obispo was present, and Best Picture winner Kurt Soberano, director of the recently re-screened ‘Under A Piaya Moon,’ sent a special video message encouraging filmmakers to submit their stories.

In addition, five student directors shared their journeys to illustrate the opportunities Puregold CinePanalo provides to young filmmakers. Best Short Film winner Ronjay Mendiola, Always Panalo Film awardee Jenievive Adame, Best Director winner Dizelle Masilungan, and regional filmmakers Marian Jayce Tiongzon and Joanah Demonteverde all spoke at the event.

Puregold’s Senior Marketing Manager, Ivy Piedad, opened the event with a passionate statement on the importance of rewarding Filipino artistry and celebrating the spirit of ‘Kwentong Panalo ng Buhay.’ She emphasized the festival’s mission to provide opportunities for student filmmakers who may lack access to resources.

“When we first launched Puregold CinePanalo, we envisioned it to champion Filipino stories, advocate for student filmmakers by providing them with a platform for their dream short films, and elevate the local film scene,” said Piedad.

She noted that last year’s festival successfully highlighted promising talents, some of whom have continued to pursue their artistic dreams. “Fueled by last edition’s success, here we are once again!” Piedad continued, “Back and bigger than ever, ready to celebrate another year of incredible films and mark the second chapter of Puregold CinePanalo.”

Interested filmmakers are encouraged to review the mechanics of the 2025 Puregold CinePanalo Festival, available on Puregold’s official social media accounts. Submissions can be made via the official application form at https://forms.gle/wNUUQ62okYcyW5r37, and inquiries can be sent to thesecretariat@cinepanalo.com.
