Kapuso actor Ruru Madrid recently shared a humorous anecdote about his teenage attempt to court fellow Kapuso star Barbie Forteza, which ended unexpectedly due to a pair of ill-fitting slippers.
In a recent episode of ‘Lutong Bahay,’ Ruru recounted the moment he decided to give Barbie a pair of slippers his uncle brought from abroad, hoping it would make an impression. However, he admitted he didn’t know her shoe size, and the slippers turned out to be far too big.
“14 ako, niligawan ko siya. Ang ginawa ko, binigyan ko siya ng tsinelas,” Ruru explained, “Hindi ko alam ‘yong size niya.”
“Naalala ko no’n, ‘yong Tito ko galing ng abroad. Tapos mayro’n siyang inuwing tsinelas. E, siyempre, dahil medyo mamahalin ‘yong tsinelas sabi ko, ito na lang ‘yong ipanreregalo ko panligaw. Tinanggap niya ‘yong regalo,” he shared.
Barbie graciously accepted the gift but ultimately turned him down, something Ruru now looks back on with laughter.
He added, “[Pero] ‘yong tsinelas pala na naibigay ko sa kaniya, sobrang laki sa kaniya. As in kalahati lang ‘yong paa niya do’n sa tsinelas. Ta’s ‘yon ‘yong naging dahilan kung bakit niya ako binasted.”
Now in stable relationships, Ruru and Barbie each celebrate milestones with their respective partners. Ruru marked six years with Bianca Umali this July, while Barbie and Jak Roberto recently celebrated their seventh anniversary in May.
Ruru is set to kick off 2025 with his highly anticipated return in ‘Lolong: Bayani ng Bayan’ on GMA Prime.
