The inspiring journey of the Filipino champion of ‘The Voice US’ Season 26 Sofronio Vasquez is set to be brought to the screen as ABS-CBN and Star Magic announce plans for a special biopic about his life.
During the contract signing event on February 25, attended by top ABS-CBN executives Cory Vidanes, Laurenti Dyogi, and Reily Santiago, Vasquez shared his excitement about this new chapter in his career.
“Sobra po akong nagagalak sa pag-welcome sa ‘kin. This has been the dream of every aspiring artist. Most dreamers out there feel like giving up, but you just have to keep going,” Vasquez said.
He also expressed deep gratitude for the opportunities he is receiving, emphasizing that he will make the most of this new platform.
“Hindi ko po sasayangin ang pagkakataon na ito,” he added.
When asked about the upcoming biopic based on his life, Vasquez revealed that he has already participated in story briefings and interviews.
While some have suggested he portray himself, the singer admitted that he would rather focus on his music than take on an acting role.
“Actually, nagkaroon na kami ng mga meeting, may briefing, storytelling, at interview na. Tinanong ako kung gusto kong mag-act, pero nahihiya ako. Sabi ko, gusto ko na lang kumanta,” he said.
However, if he were to take on a small role, Vasquez jokingly said he’d be interested in joining Batang Quiapo in a mafia role—but admitted that dramatic acting may not be his strength.
As for the lead role in his biopic, Vasquez did not hesitate in naming Elijah Canlas as his top choice.
“I am so hooked on ‘Incognito’ right now, so sana mabigyan ako ng pagkakataon… Elijah Canlas. That would be exciting. He’s very good in acting,” Vasquez stated.
With Vasquez personally selecting Elijah Canlas to portray him, fans have begun speculating whether the Kapamilya star will accept the role.
Canlas, who is known for his award-winning performances, is also a talented singer, making him a strong contender for the role of Vasquez.
The choice has sparked discussions among netizens, with many praising Vasquez’s pick, noting that Canlas has the acting depth and musical skills to bring authenticity to the role.
With his biopic in the pipeline, Vasquez is also set to embark on a busy schedule under Star Magic’s management, which will handle his projects, negotiations, and deals in the Philippines and across Asia.
Aside from the life story production, Vasquez has a series of concerts lined up in North America, including stops in the US and Canada.
