Kapuso actor Alden Richards has expressed support for fellow GMA Network star Dingdong Dantes, who recently spoke out against rampant corruption in the country.
On Instagram Stories, Richards reshared a GMA News post quoting part of Dantes’ now-viral Facebook essay, where the latter admitted feeling overwhelmed by disillusionment and anger over alleged misuse of taxpayers’ money.
“Aaminin ko… I have never felt so disillusioned, anxious, disturbed, and angry all at once. Not just because I now know the taxes I’ve paid have been ‘played’ with (pun intended) — but because the very institutions meant to secure our future may also be the same ones denying it to our children. This goes beyond corruption in the legal sense — and that pains me the most,” the excerpt read.
Richards left no additional caption on his repost, but his action was seen by many fans as a clear gesture of solidarity with Dantes.
Dantes’ full statement, posted Sept. 13 and titled “What is happening to the world today?”, detailed his reflections while watching the recent Senate hearings with his wife Marian Rivera.
“Early this week, while watching the hearings with my wife—as stories of corruption unfolded—we asked ourselves: What kind of future will our children inherit? Will they grow up in a society that values truth, integrity, and compassion, or one that normalizes deceit and greed?” he wrote.
“As parents, we know we cannot shield them forever. One day, they will face the world with their own eyes, their own voice, their own choices. The question is: how do we prepare them? How do we make sure they inherit not our fears, but our courage?”
Dantes further underscored that dialogue must lead to action: “Those entrusted with responsibility must be held to the highest standard—not to serve themselves, but to choose what is right.”
Richards, meanwhile, had earlier drawn attention online with a cryptic Instagram post defining the slang “kuracaught” as a “corrupt na opisyal o indibidwal na huling-huli na sa ginagawang walang-habas na katiwalian at pangungurakot.”
