Broadcast journalist Karen Davila expressed her frustration on social media after receiving reports that several politicians allegedly attended the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Singapore while the Philippines was reeling from successive natural calamities.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) last October 10, the ABS-CBN news anchor extended her prayers to residents of Davao, which was struck by a powerful magnitude 7.4 earthquake, before calling out the apparent lack of empathy from some government officials.

“Praying for all our kababayans in Davao,” Davila wrote. “Nakaranas ang Pilipinas ng sunod-sunod na BAGYO, BAHA… LINDOL SA CEBU… BAGYO ULIT… ngayon, LINDOL SA DAVAO…”

She then added, “And sources tell us nakapag-F1 pa sa Singapore ang ilang pulitiko nung nakaraang linggo? Congressmen? Seriously?”

The veteran broadcaster ended her post with a pointed plea: “Lord, please give us politicians who genuinely feel and care for our people. Yung may malasakit. Hindi bingi at bulag.”

Davila did not name the officials in question, but her post quickly drew widespread attention online, resonating with Filipinos who have criticized public servants for their perceived indifference during times of crisis.

The Philippines has faced multiple disasters in recent weeks, including destructive typhoons, severe flooding, and strong earthquakes in Cebu and Davao Oriental. Rescue operations continue in affected provinces as local governments work to provide relief to victims.

Social media users echoed Davila’s sentiments, praising her for her courage in calling out the disconnect between politicians’ lifestyles and the struggles of ordinary citizens.

Davila, known for her fearless and incisive journalism, has long advocated for accountability and empathy in public service. Her post, many netizens said, was a timely reminder that leadership should be rooted not in privilege or spectacle—but in compassion, awareness, and genuine service to the Filipino people.
