Comedienne and TV host Pokwang once again made headlines after calling out the so-called “Nepo Babies” — the children and relatives of government contractors allegedly involved in multi-billion-peso flood control projects — for showing off their extravagant outfits on social media.
On October 14, Pokwang reposted an Instagram Reel showing some of these “Nepo Babies” wearing designer clothes, contrasting their luxury looks with her own affordable SHEIN outfit.
The video featured YouTuber Jammy Cruz, daughter of Noel Cruz, general manager of Sto. Cristo Construction and Trading Inc., a company that reportedly secured over ₱3.5 billion worth of flood control projects from 2022 to 2024.
Also seen in the clip was Claudine Co, niece of former Ako Bicol Party-list Representative Elizaldy “Zaldy” Co and daughter of Christopher Co, co-founder of Hi-Tone Construction and Development Corporation — another firm linked to government contracts.
The original video was captioned: “Nepo babies’ luxurious outfit VS SHEIN. Tang*na, mas sinayang nyo talaga pera ng bayan hahaahahahaa! Depende talaga sa nagdadala, mga hayuf!!!”
Pokwang reposted the clip on her Instagram Story and doubled down on the criticism with her own fiery caption: “SHEIN VS mamahaling outfit ng mga anak ng magna hahahaha! Tangna, mas sinayang ang pera ng bayan, animal!!!”
“Tapos ni hindi nakahabol sa outfit ko na SHEIN!!! Tangna mez!!!!!” she added, mixing humor and rage in her post.
Her outburst drew strong reactions from netizens — many expressing agreement with her sentiments amid ongoing public anger over corruption allegations linked to government infrastructure projects.
One of those who backed Pokwang was Asia’s Nightingale Lani Misalucha, who commented on the post saying:
“Planggana garapon! Di kailangan ng branded! Yan pa lang winner na!”
Pokwang has been one of the most outspoken celebrities online in recent months, using her platform to criticize corruption and social inequality.
Her latest post adds to a growing wave of outrage from public figures and citizens calling for transparency and accountability in the use of taxpayers’ money — echoing Pokwang’s blunt yet resonant sentiment: “Hindi mahirap ang Pilipinas — pinahihirapan tayo.”
