Veteran TV host-comedian Jose Manalo looked back on one of his most unforgettable moments on the ‘Sugod Bahay’ segment of ‘Eat Bulaga’—when he accidentally fell into a canal.

In an interview on ‘Toni Talks’, Manalo admitted that the incident left a lasting impression on him and even caused trauma for several days.
When asked about his most memorable “Sugod Bahay” moment, Manalo immediately recalled the incident.
“Nu’ng nalaglag ako sa kanal. Talagang Malabon. Hindi siya nakita sa camera. Pero naka-video!”
He also shared what went through his mind at that moment.
“Inisip ko, hindi ako hihinga. Hindi ko ibubuka ang bibig ko. Aahon agad ako.”
Following the incident, Manalo said he received a call from their boss checking on his condition.
“‘Ano’ng nangyari? May mga open wound ka ba?’ sabi sa akin. Meron po, (sagot ko). ‘Nasaan?’ Ito po ‘di ba ‘yung nasa mukha ko,” he recounted.
He then turned the situation into a joke—something he is known for.
“Sabi niya (ni Sir), ‘Hindi ‘yan! Puro ka kalokohan. Nag-aalala kami sa ‘yo. May nainom ka ba? Anong gusto mo?’ Sabi ko, Sir, dagdagan n’yo po ‘yung sahod namin.”
Despite the humor, Manalo admitted that the experience had a strong impact on him.
“Napapanaginipan ko pa rin ‘yung amoy ng kanal… Ganu’n siya kalupit!”
The incident happened in June 2016, and remains one of the most talked-about moments in the long-running noontime show.
Even years later, Manalo’s ability to turn an unfortunate accident into a lighthearted story continues to highlight his professionalism and signature comedic charm.
