Two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo revealed that he once attempted to buy an engagement ring for girlfriend Chloe San Jose, but the plan did not push through.
During their guest appearance on ‘Fast Talk with Boy Abunda’, Yulo shared that he had tried purchasing a ring in 2023, around the time they started living together.
“Tinray ko po actually, pero hindi po talaga ako nakabili. Tinray ko sa Japan bumili, tinray ko rin sa Singapore bumili. Pero ewan ko, parang hindi sumasang-ayon po sa ‘kin ‘yung mundo at that time,” he said.
San Jose, meanwhile, admitted that she may have unintentionally affected the surprise after discovering a notification related to the purchase.
“Eh, kasi po nag-notif sa e-mail niya, so then hindi ko naman po sinasadya. Nakita ko po nag-notif na reservation for a ring, ganyan-ganyan. So of course, I had to tell him because we’re super open. And of course, the surprise na rin, mawawala na. I don’t also want to lie about it naman or act surprised na kasi siyempre, mawawala ‘yung magic,” she explained.
Despite the setback, Yulo assured that there will be a right time for him to finally buy the engagement ring, while San Jose confirmed she would say yes when the proposal comes.
The couple also shared insights into their relationship, including their decision to live together since 2023.
“Yeah,” Yulo said when asked if they are living together. “2023 pa.”
They also expressed their views on marriage, saying they do not necessarily need approval from others.
“As long as tayong dalawa nagkakaintindihan,” Yulo said.
“I feel like it would get complicated kapag there’s too many people getting involved,” San Jose added.
“And I feel like po if you have the right circle, they wouldn’t make you feel that way… It’s a safe space po kasi,” she continued.
While they have already discussed marriage, the couple has yet to reveal when they plan to take the next step.
