  • Rep. Vilma Santos opposed CHR budget cut.
  • Reps. Lucy Torres, Yul Servo and Alfred Vargas mum on their vote on CHR budget cut.

Batangas Representative Vilma Santos-Recto shared her sentiments on the Congress’ decision to give the Commission on Human Rights a measly 1000 peso budget.

On Tuesday, September 12, the House of Representatives has decided to give Commission on Human Rights a 1000 peso budget. Voting 119-32, the Congress approved a budget of 1k for the Commission drawing outrage from the netizens. The voting prompt people’s curiosity on how celebrity lawmakers have voted.

In a text message tweeted by his son Luis Manzano, the Star for all Seasons and Batangas Congresswoman said she is against the budget cut on CHR. Unfortunately, she was absent during the session but confirmed that she could have voted NO on the motion.

“Am against cutting the budget of CHR. They have a duty to perform as mandated by the constitution. With so many crimes/EJK – they need more resources to these investigations. Ito ang isa sa Ahensya na tumutulong sa karapatang pang tao.” she said.

Meanwhile, aside from Santos – Recto none of the other celebrity lawmakers have shared how they voted or what are their take on the CHR budget cut.

Leyte Representative Lucy Torres-Gomez, Manila Representative John Marvin C. Nieto (Yul Servo) and Quezon City Representative Alfred Vargas were all mum on their stands.

But based on the partial list of congressmen who voted NO to the budget cut which their names weren’t available, there are only 2 possibilities, they were absent and wasn’t able to vote also or they voted YES to the Rep. Marcoleta’s motion.
