Experts have found out that Angat Dam in Bulacan sits near a fault line that if damaged by an earthquake, the structure could submerge 30 towns, cut water and electricity supply in Metro Manila, and flood farmlands in Central Luzon.
This is just one of the pressing safety concerns involving one of the country’s most important dams that will be investigated by broadcast journalist Henry Omaga-Diaz this Thursday (June 28) in “Krusada.”
Henry will look into the health and ecological dangers affecting the biggest water reservoirs in the country, namely Angat Dam, Ipo Dam, and Bustos Dam. One of which involves the inconsistent water supply from the structures. During summer, the dams’ water levels dramatically drop but during the rainy season, the dams can overflow and flood nearby areas.
Aside from these hazards, a recent study also revealed that Angat Dam is heavily polluted with chemical chromium, which is said to pose potential health risks to people who consume the water it supplies.
