The new cellular number coding scheme, similar to the number coding scheme MMDA implemented for several years, will be implemented starting next week, April 7 (Monday). According to their press release, major MRT stations are designed to accommodate as many as 10,000 passengers and the MRT Yellow Line fleet of trains has a maximum design capacity of 350,000 passengers daily.
Commuters with phone numbers ending in certain digits will not be allowed to ride any bus or MRT/LRT trains during peak hours in this new scheme. This phone number coding on commuters is MRT, MMDA’s solution for now to address the long lines at the MRT stations during rush hours.
