Menardo G. “Butch” Jimenez Jr., chief operating officer of PLDT Inc. and a member of a family closely associated with GMA Network, has expressed support for the societal value of ABS-CBN amid ongoing discussions about the network’s future.

In a statement shared publicly, Jimenez underscored that ABS-CBN’s contributions extend beyond financial metrics, despite its long-standing rivalry with GMA Network.
“In my humble opinion, their existence cannot be measured only by pesos and profit. They may have lost a lot, but the Filipinos they serve have gained much more,” he said.
Jimenez also acknowledged the network’s role in serving the Filipino public over the years, noting that competition between media companies has never been solely about business.
“While I will not comment on the corporate intramurals between the Lopez families most of which are personal friends of ours on all sides, I will have to share a thought on ABS CBN,” he said.
“Notwithstanding the fact that we have been competitors for decades, our family has always acknowledged and appreciated the service ABS CBN has provided to the Filipino people,” he added.
His remarks come at a time when ABS-CBN faces internal challenges and discussions surrounding its sustainability following the loss of its broadcast franchise. Despite these pressures, key stakeholders within the Lopez family have reiterated their commitment to stabilizing the company and continuing its recovery efforts.
Jimenez, who operates within a broader media ecosystem—particularly with PLDT’s stake in TV5—highlighted how industry lines can blur during critical moments for Philippine media.
“God speed to Team Kapamilya,” he said.
