The beneficiaries are grateful for the said project that will help them in rebuilding their livelihood.
“It is now possible for me to send my two children to college,” said fisherman Sanito Colminar in an interview aired on “TV Patrol.”
Residents in Basey have been constructing more than 465 motor boats, which will be distributed to 20 coastal barangays. Some of the motor boats will already benefit some fishermen next week.
Sagip Kapamilya and Bantay Kalikasan aim to deliver 4,000 boats to the residents of Basey and Dulag, Leyte, and also to nearby towns Marabut and Sta. Rita. Three hundred three boats with fishing gears have already been distributed to different coastal areas.
Basey and Dulag are the towns assigned to ABS-CBN by Pangulong Benigno Aquino III, through Presidential Assistant for Rehabilitation and Recovery (PARR) Panfilo Lacson, for long-term rebuilding projects. Sagip Kapamilya has also widened its efforts by sending help to neighboring towns Sta. Rita and Marabut.
Sagip Kapamilya has also pledged the building of 108 classrooms in Basey and Dulag. Twenty one of which are under construction, while four have been finished.
The foundation continues to send help to Yolanda survivors. In fact, it has already served relief assistance to 3,636,475 individuals as of March 31.
Sagip Kapamilya has also helped Basey in reviving its ecotourism by supplying 10 boats to its famous attraction, the Sohoton Cave.
Other slated livelihood projects for different barangays of Basey and Dulag are crab cultivation, agriculture, weaving, and ecotourism development.
